Ranjit Singh took control of Amritsar in AD 1805 (VS1862). It is believed by historians that he commemorated this victory by introducing the religious symbol of &#39;Kangha&#39; (Comb)on his coin. It is a part of the five &lsquo;Ks&rsquo; or essentials in the Sikh Religion prescribed by Guru Gobind Singh, the creator of the Khalsa. It became a customary practice for Lahore Durbar to send the donation of the first minted coins of any new series to Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar.
