Note: An extraordinary and unique silver coronation issue of Nasir ud-Din Nusrat Shah, struck on an octagonal flan - a format hitherto unknown within the regular coinage of the Bengal Sultanate. This exceptional specimen is the only recorded example and is the actual plate coin illustrated in Goron & Goenka (G&G # B825). It is unmatched in its bold strike, complete and legible legends, and finely executed octagonal flan, representing the highest standard of minting artistry.

Struck at the Husainabad Dar-ul-Darb mint in the first year of Nusrat Shah’s reign (AH 925), the coin displays the Sultan’s full titulature with remarkable clarity, strongly indicating that it was produced as a special coronation (or a Nazrana) issue, rather than for normal circulation.

Nasir ud-Din Nusrat Shah, the eldest surviving son of Sultan Ala ud din Husain Shah, founder of the Hussain Shahi dynasty, was appointed crown prince in AD 1515. Prior to his accession, he played a leading role in military and administrative affairs, notably commanding Bengal’s land forces against the Kingdom of Mrauk U (Arakan) around AD 1516, restoring Bengal’s authority over Chittagong and northern Arakan and renaming Chittagong Fatehabad (“City of Victory”). Following his peaceful accession in AD 1519, Nusrat Shah consolidated the Sultanate, secured the northern frontier in Tirhut (Mithila) from Hajipur, maintained pressure on Tripura, expanded maritime trade through duty-free privileges to Portuguese merchants (AD 1521), and preserved Bengal’s autonomy through strategic neutrality with the Mughals after the Battle of Ghaghra (AD 1529).

This coin carries the prominent provenance of the late Shri I. K. Kejriwal and has never before been publicly offered. It represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire one of the most historically important and visually compelling silver issues of the Bengal Sultanate.
