Note: This silver coin of the tribal Audumbara dynasty, bearing the title Mahadeva, represents a highly significant and rare Shaivite issue. The type is distinguished by the presence of a Shivalinga, clearly indicating the religious inclinations of the issuing authority. As noted by Professor Devendra Handa, only two pieces have been documented previously by him. This variety is referenced in the publication Early North India and Its Coinage, although photographs are not available. The Shaivite association is further reinforced by the iconography of the Shivalinga, underscoring its devotional context. On the reverse, the elephant is shown holding a branch in its trunk. This issue stands as one of the rarest within the tribal coin series and is absent from many major ancient collections.<o:p></o:p>Offered for the first time in Our Auctions!<o:p></o:p>
