Note:&nbsp;An unlisted Quarter Rupee Nisarvariety, closely resembling the designs of the one rupee issue listed as type KM #235.10, this fascinating issue represents one of the most intriguing ceremonial coinages of the Mughal world. Nisar coins were traditionally struck to ward off the effects of the “evil eye”, being scattered before the emperor during royal appearances, court ceremonies, and grand processions. Even Jahangir himself records in his memoirs the large quantities of money distributed during such occasions in cities like Ahmadabad. Yet, the existence of Nisars from mints the emperor never personally visited suggests that these rituals were often carried out by high-ranking nobles and court officials on behalf of the imperial court.<o:p></o:p>The presence of the Kalima on these pieces indicates a more sacred and ceremonial purpose, suggesting they were intended for religious presentation and distribution through mosques or Islamic institutions rather than for ordinary scattering among crowds. Struck in extremely low denominations, these coins were designed for prolonged ceremonial use during processions, making their survival exceptionally uncommon. As a result, low-denomination Nisar issues are today regarded among the rarest Mughal ceremonial coins, with specimens displaying a full readable date being nearly impossible to encounter.<o:p></o:p>
