Note: Among the most important and historically significant issues of the Bengal Sultanate, these silver tankas bear religious legends associated with the Qadam Rasul-the revered footprint of the Prophet Muhammad. Sultan Jalal ud-Din Fath Shah uniquely styles himself as the Mujawar (servant and guardian) of the shrine housing the sacred relic, reflecting an exceptional expression of royal devotion. The veneration of the Prophet’s footprint enjoyed royal patronage in Bengal and later culminated in the construction of the famous Qadam Rasul shrine at Gaur by Sultan Nusrat Shah in 1530 AD. Coins bearing this distinctive religious epithet rank among the most fascinating and important issues of Bengal Sultanate numismatics.
