Note: This quarter dinar of Kanishka I of the Kushan dynasty, of the Nana-Oesho type, represents a particularly interesting issue. Göbl records only Two Known Specimens of this type in his catalogue. The goddess Nana, of Mesopotamian origin, was associated with war, fertility, wisdom, and water, and served as the chief deity of the royal dynastic pantheon during this period. Her cult may have existed in Central Asia even before the arrival of the Indo-Iranians. Oesho is generally identified with the god Shiva in the Kushan pantheon. The combined Nana-Oesho iconography is highly unusual, especially on a fractional denomination, and its appearance here with well-preserved details, precision strike makes this specimen extremely gorgeous.&nbsp;
