Note : Though issued in the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II, this gold Mohur was struck under the authority of the Maratha Confederacy during their control of Delhi. The imperial umbrella embellished with a floral motif, along with the distinctive Sahib-i-Qiran inscription, are artistic features introduced by the Marathas. Delhi was occupied by the Marathas five times, with the final occupation (1788–1803) ending after the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Coins from this period often feature Maratha-style motifs and are linked to Maratha administration. These coins are generally classified under the Mughal series, but are now recognized by scholars as Maratha issues struck in the name of Shah Alam II of late 18th-century India.
