Note: The Ashvamedha Yajna was among the most prestigious and elaborate Vedic rituals of ancient India, performed by a king to assert and reaffirm his imperial sovereignty. Central to the ceremony was the release of a consecrated horse to wander freely for a year, accompanied by royal guards; any territory the horse entered without challenge symbolically came under the king's dominion. The full ritual culminated in a grand sacrificial ceremony, emphasizing the king’s supreme authority and divine favor. The Ashvamedha is described in ancient Vedic texts, particularly the Shatapatha Brahmana.
