Note: This exceptional coin marks the revival of the illustrious "Tiger Slayer" type by Kumaragupta, a design originally introduced by his grandfather, the legendary Samudragupta. Interestingly, his father, Chandragupta II, did not issue coins of this type, making Kumaragupta's revival even more significant. The obverse features a majestic depiction of the King slaying a tiger with an arrow, symbolizing his unparalleled valor, courage, and role as the protector of his realm. The legend, partially off-flan on this specimen, reads “Srimam Vyaghrabalaparakkramah” (श्रीमां व्याघ्रबलपराक्रमः), which translates to "His Majesty possessing the strength and valor of a tiger." On the reverse, the legend “Kumarguptodhirajah” (कुमारगुप्तोधिराजः) proclaims Kumaragupta as "King over Kings." The iconography of the reverse, with Goddess Ganga standing gracefully on a crocodile, reflects the profound cultural and spiritual heritage of India. This coin is a testament to the artistic and historical brilliance of Indian tradition.
