Note: The term ‘darb’ inscribed on the reverse of these coins presents a fascinating conundrum. In the ‘Ain-i-Akbari’, Abul Fazl explicitly lists ‘darb’ as an official denomination issued by Akbar's royal mint. It is described as a silver coin worth half a ‘Jalalah’, itself defined as a square silver rupee. Intriguingly, the term ‘darb’, denoting a half-rupee, also appears on full rupee coins minted at Sitpur during Ilahi years 48-49 (1011-12 CE). Another perspective emerges from the Persian meaning of ‘darb’, which translates to ‘port’. As Persian was the Mughal court language, this interpretation suggests that ‘darb’ may serve as an epithet for the mint name, rendering Sitpur as "Port of Sitpur." This usage parallels the term ‘bandar’ employed to designate port towns or cities.
