Hyderabad Feudatory, Koilkonda Mint, Silver Rupee, &#39;Ba-fazl-e-ilahi&#39;&nbsp;Couplet,&nbsp;In the name of Alamgir II, Obv: Persian legend &ldquo;sikka&nbsp;zad dar&nbsp;jahan&nbsp;ba fazle&nbsp;elahi, shah alam panah&nbsp;(Alamgir&nbsp;sani)&rdquo;, Rev: Persian legend &ldquo;maimanat julus&rdquo; &amp; &ldquo;zarb&nbsp;Koilkonda&rdquo;&nbsp;completely visible at the bottom, 11.24g, 20.10mm,&nbsp;original patina, single test mark, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: These rare coins are the only known examples of the Koilkonda rupee in the name of Alamgir II with a couplet. It hasn&#39;t been deciphered fully but the words &#39;Ba-Fazl-i-Ilahi&#39; can be made out.

In the 1750s, the Nizam of Hyderabad&rsquo;s house was embroiled in a power struggle between the sons of Asaf Jah&rsquo;s sons. The first two were killed in quick succession and the third was a puppet ruler for the Peshwa Balaji Bajirao. All sorts of rulers tried to use the ensuing chaos to stake a claim at autonomy and had begun striking coins in their own names. A number of rare and lesser-known mints were established at this time including Charikonda, Amarchinta, Gurmatkal, Medak, Koilkonda, Arki and Jatprole, among other, which were run by minor local authorities. Better known mints include Qamarnagar and Dilshadabad. Many of these coins still remain unpublished.
