Azam Shah (AD 1707), Hyderabad Dar ul Jihad mint, Silver Rupee, Daulat wa Jah couplet, AH 1119, RY Ahad, complete mint name in the bottom line and mint epithet in the second line on reverse (KM# 332.8). Probably minted from the dies of Gold Mohurs. Azam Shah was anointed as heir apparent (Shahi Ali Jah) to his father Aurangzeb in 1681. Earlier he was Viceroy of Gujarat, Berar, Malwa and Bengal. On the death of Aurangzeb, Azam ascended to the Mughal throne at Ahmednagar on 14th March 1707. However, Azam could not enjoy the fruits of Royal life as he was defeated and killed by his elder half-brother Prince Muazzam on 19th June 1707, who later became known as Shah Alam. Only 3 or 4 coins of the Hyderabdad mint of Azam Shah are reported till now and they seem to be ceremonial issues when Azam ascended the Mughal throne at Deccan. To find such a rare coin in the mint state condition is a double jackpot, hence the Rarity. Almost Mint State with mint luster still shining on both the sides. For the first time appearing in any Indian auctions, Great Rarity.
