Humayun (AH 950-956 /1543-1549 AD), Qandahar Mint (By Style), Silver Shahrukhi, AH 950 (Retrograde date), Light Weight, Obv: Arabic legend The Kalima Shahada in the circular linear border &amp; the four Caliphs' names in the margin, Rev: Arabic legend "Muhammad Humayun Badshah Ghazi" within a mehrabi cartouche frame, “Sultan-ul-azam Khaqan-al-Mukarram, “khuld Allahu ta'ala mulkahu wa sultanahu” with Retrograde Hijri date 950 completely visible &amp; "zarb Qandahar" almost erased at the outer bottom margin,&nbsp;some flatness, superb toning, graded &amp; slabbed by NGC as AU 53, Extremely Rare.&nbsp;

Note: The year AH 950 marks one of the most unsettled phases of Humayun’s career. Pursued by his brothers and reduced to a precarious position around Mastung and Qandahar, Humayun was ultimately forced to abandon the region and seek refuge at the Safavid court of Shah Tahmasp in Persia.A Shahrukhi of Qandahar dated AH 950 therefore belongs to the closing phase of Humayun’s rule in the region before his Persian exile. Struck at a moment when his authority was rapidly contracting, the coin provides an important numismatic marker for the transition between Humayun’s first period of rule and the exile that would eventually enable his return to Qandahar and Kabul with Safavid support.
