Bengal Sultanate, Ghiyath ud din Bahadur, Joint Issue with Muhammad bin Tughluq (AH 728 / 1328 AD), Hadrat Sunargaon Mint, Silver Tanka, Obv: Arabic legend “duriba bi amr al-wathiq billah Muhammad bin Tughluq Shah”, Rev: Arabic legend “al-Sultan al-Mu'azzam Ghiyath ud-dunya wa’l-din Abu’l-Muzaffar Bahadur Shah al-Sultan bin Sultan”, 10.93g, 26.3mm, (G&G # B116), no test marks, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: Muhammad bin Tughluq reinstated Ghiyath ud din Bahadur as his governor of East Bengal at Sunargaon around AH 726. Two years later, Bahadur issued gold and silver coinage bearing both his own name and that of Muhammad bin Tughluq. The legends expressly state that the coins were struck “by order of Muhammad bin Tughluq, the one who trusts in Allah,” reflecting Bahadur's nominal allegiance to the Delhi Sultan. This arrangement, however, was short-lived. Bahadur subsequently rebelled against his Delhi overlord and attempted to reassert his independence in Bengal, a defiance that ultimately led to his defeat and downfall. The present specimen is an important example of this brief and historically significant phase of joint Delhi–Bengal coinage, struck at Hadrat Sunargaon in AH 728.
