Note: Ajmer occupied a particularly important position during Jahangir’s reign, both as an imperial camp and as the site of the shrine of Muin ud din Chishti, to which the emperor maintained deep personal devotion. Jahangir shifted the imperial court to Ajmer during his 9th regnal year, and it was from here that Prince Khurram was dispatched against Rana Amar Singh of Mewar. News of the Mughal success later returned to Ajmer, where it was marked with imperial celebrations and largesse, further strengthening the city’s political importance during this phase of the reign.<o:p></o:p>Jahangir’s poetic couplet coinage represented a notable departure from the more formal legends of earlier Mughal issues, with different verses composed for specific mints and occasions. The present specimen bears the reading “Dar Ajmer” within the couplet, a rare and unpublished variant absent in KM, which records the type as “Ba Ajmer.” Though seemingly minor, such variations are significant within Jahangir’s poetic series, where wording was often deliberately structured.<o:p></o:p>We are offering for the first time in Our Auctions!<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>
