Note: This specimen represents a new and unpublished discovery from the Ayodhya rulers, attributed to Rajno Chittavarman, and has never before appeared in numismatic records.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>The earliest coins of Ayodhya are known through a prolific series of square and rectangular cast issues issued by rulers such as Mooldeva, Vayudeva, Vishakhadeva, and Dhandeva. Subsequently, a series of coins with the suffix Dutta including Shivadatta, Nagdatta, and Jyeshthadatta was issued.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>The present specimen likely belongs to a later dynasty, characterized by a bull with legend on the obverse and a reverse featuring a nandipada. Similar issues are known from rulers such as Satyamitra, Vijayamitra, Aryamitra/Ayumitra, and Devmitra, which combined a cock and a palm tree on the reverse. In the terminal issues of this series, while the obverse design remained largely unchanged, the cock/palm tree symbol was replaced by the nandipada, as observed in coins of Sanghamitra, Ranyo Kumudsena, and Ranyo Sivamitra (W. Pieper).&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>This coin of Raja Chittavarman is possibly the rarest in the entire coinage of Ayodhya featuring the nandipada, representing the first known example of his reign. This exceptional specimen invites further scholarly research.<o:p></o:p>
