Under the Treaty of Seringapatam, signed on 26 February 1792, Tipu Sultan was compelled to surrender his two young sons, Princes Abdul Khaliq, aged 10, and Muhi ud din, aged 8, as hostages to guarantee his compliance with the terms of the treaty. The dramatic episode became one of the most celebrated representations associated with the Mysore campaign.<o:p></o:p>Some examples of the medal are incorrectly dated 1793.
