Note: Mughal forces under Mir Jumla, Subahdar of Bengal under Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir, invaded Cooch Behar in AH 1072 (1661 AD) during the Mughal advance into the north-eastern frontier. Prana Narayan, the ruler of Cooch Behar, fled toward Bhutan, and the region remained under Mughal military occupation until AH 1074 (1663 AD). During this period, Mir Jumla used Cooch Behar as a forward base and renamed the city Alamgirnagar, indicating its temporary incorporation into the Mughal administrative framework.Coinage was issued locally during the occupation. These coins were struck according to the Cooch Behar weight standard and in Bengali script, maintaining continuity with established regional monetary practice. At the same time, the inscriptions employ Persian imperial language and titulature, reflecting Mughal authority. The resulting issues represent a hybrid monetary series combining Mughal political claims with local conventions.The short duration of Mughal control explains the extreme rarity of this coinage.
