Note: The mint name "Sitpur" refers to Siddhpur, a historic town in Gujarat’s Patan district that gained prominence as a religious and commercial hub during the Chaulukya dynasty. Named after King Jayasimha Siddharaja, Siddhpur was renowned for conducting passage rituals for the deceased, particularly mothers, and was a significant center for textile trade with exports reaching as far as Egypt.<o:p></o:p>Following Akbar’s conquest of Gujarat in the late 16th century, Patan (Anhilwara Patan) lost much of its political importance, but Siddhpur retained its religious and commercial significance. Gold coins from this mint are exceptionally rare, with fewer than five known specimens, and only two have appeared at auctions over the last 30 years-all dated to the 47th year with Farwardin as the issuing month.<o:p></o:p>In AH 987 (1579), Emperor Akbar issued the "Mazhar," or Declaration of Infallibility, asserting religious authority over the Ulama and laying the foundation for his divine right to rule. This ideological shift led to the establishment of the Din-i-Ilahi (Religion of God) in AH 990 (1582), a syncretic faith born from interreligious debates held in the Ibadat Khana. These changes were soon reflected in Akbar’s coinage, replacing traditional Islamic inscriptions with "Allah-u-Akbar, Jalla Jalaluhu" (God is Great, His Glory Shines)-a phrase some interpret as a theological pun combining Akbar’s name with divine reverence.<o:p></o:p>Initially, these coins were struck without mint names or dates, symbolizing the advent of the Islamic Millennium, but by AH 992, Akbar transitioned to a solar-based calendar and regnal dating, a reform further continued under Jahangir.
