This event, marking his formal enthronement, was celebrated with the striking of new coins. The court chronicler Muhammad Kazim, in the Alamgirnama, records the grandeur of the occasion—the distribution of khilʿats (robes of honour), promotions, and generous disbursement of gold and silver, symbolizing imperial power and divine sanction. The official date of accession was later standardized to 1st Ramadan AH 1068 by imperial Farman (decree).<o:p></o:p>This nazrana style rupee, dated AH 1069 / Regnal Year Ahad, was likely struck to commemorate Aurangzeb’s second and formal coronation at Shahjahanabad.
