Note:&nbsp;Struck during a turbulent chapter of Ahom history, this&nbsp;exceedingly Rare Gold Mohur&nbsp;belongs to the brief rule of&nbsp;Brajnatha Simha,&nbsp;great-grandson of&nbsp;Rajeswar Simha. After the death of&nbsp;Kamaleswar Simha in 1810, his brother&nbsp;Chandrakanta Simha&nbsp;ascended the throne, but his first reign&nbsp;(1810–1817)&nbsp;saw&nbsp;no coinage. In&nbsp;1816, the disgraced&nbsp;Bar Phukan&nbsp;invited the&nbsp;Burmese into Assam, briefly seizing power before being assassinated.<o:p></o:p>In response, the son of the late&nbsp;Burha Gohain, a&nbsp;powerful noble who had taken refuge in Guwahati, returned and assumed the position of&nbsp;Chief Minister. Disillusioned with Chandrakanta’s rule, he supported&nbsp;Brajnatha Simha’s claim to power. Though&nbsp;Brajnatha was never formally crowned&nbsp;due to a&nbsp;disfigurement (a mutilated ear),&nbsp;coins were nonetheless struck in his name, marking his&nbsp;effective rule. His son,&nbsp;Purandara Simha, was ceremonially crowned, but&nbsp;exercised no real authority.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>This specimen stands out as one of the finest and choicest known examples&nbsp;among the&nbsp;few recorded gold issues&nbsp;of&nbsp;Brajnatha Simha. It is&nbsp;probably being offered for the first time in our auction.<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>
