Note: A fascinating aspect of Jahangir's reign was his experimentation with coins. In addition to their high quality, weight standards, and intricate designs, coins from his period are known in a variety of denominations with interesting names. For heavyweight silver half rupees of high purity, the Sultani denomination was used.

The Tuzuk-e-Jahangiri records the following names for fractional denominations; Gold coins of half tola as 'Nurani', meaning 'the light' and quarter tola as 'Riwazi'. The silver coins (sikkas) of 10 tolas were named 'Kaukab-i-bakht', meaning 'star of good luck', 5 tolas as 'Kaukab-i-sa'd' meaning 'star of auspiciousness', 1 tola as 'Jahangiri', and 'Half Jahangiri as Sultani' meaning 'The Royal'.

As can be seen on this coin, it bears the Persian month of 'Amardad' clearly. In light of the clear date AH1015 / RY1, it can be assumed that it was struck between 13 July - 13 August in 1606. It is a completely new type bearing the Elahi month. An important rarity of the Mughal coins was offered for the first time at auction.
