Note: This mohur was struck in the imperial city of Akbarabad (modern-day Agra) during the reign of Shah Jahan, this coin likely commemorates a momentous occasion - possibly the royal wedding of his eldest son, Prince Dara Shikoh, in AH 1043 (1633 AD). The wedding ceremony took place within the Agra Fort, home to the imperial mint. Born to Shah Jahan and the legendary Mumtaz Mahal, Dara Shikoh was a patron of art, culture, and spiritual thought. The coin bears refined inscriptions in the elegant Thuluth script, a calligraphic style known for its fluid curves and spiritual resonance. Originating during the Umayyad period, Thuluth was widely used in Islamic art and architecture and famously graces the marble walls of the Taj Mahal, inscribed by the renowned Persian calligrapher Amanat Khan.
