The date on the coin 1858 AD assumes significance as it is a year after the sepoy mutiny erupted. Bharatpur was one of the first states to show allegiance to the British during and after the mutiny, and was probably one the first princely states, to issue a coin with the portrait of Queen Victoria. It was also in this year on November 1st that a Royal Proclamation was made replacing East India Company with the British Government.
