Note: According to the Babur Nama, the city of Jaunpur was first captured by Humayun in Safar AH 933. Following Babur's instructions, it was handed over to two of his leading chiefs, Mir Husain and Sultan Junaid Barlas, in Rabi I AH 933. In Rabi II AH 935, Babur sent his son Askari to relieve the city, which was under constant attack by the Afghans. However, Askari did not participate in Jaunpur's relief as he was summoned back by Babur to address Afghan threats in the East. By Ramzan AH 935, Jaunpur was given to Sultan Muhammad-i-Zaman Mirza Bai-Qara, who was accompanying Babur on his Eastern Campaign. Zaman Mirza likely returned to Jaunpur after Babur's departure from the campaign sometime after Shawwal AH 935. The city was subsequently lost to the Afghans in AH 937 and later recovered by Humayun. Notably, Jaunpur issued coins in AH 936, as evidenced by the surviving coinage.
