Note:&nbsp;Engraved&nbsp;by&nbsp;J. Rogers after a large-scale painting by Henry Singleton in 1851, it depicts the East India Company storming and capturing Seringapatam, Tipu Sultan&#39;s fortified capital and bitter opponent of British imperialism in May 1799. Mysore and British forces appear to be engaged in a pitched battle, with uniformed British soldiers aggressively charging at Tipu, who is on the defensive, literally on the back foot. During the fourth Anglo-Mysore war, Tipu fought to the death and Seringpatan fell.

&nbsp;An image underneath recalls Tipu&#39;s surrender to the British in 1792, when Lieutenant-General Lord Cornwallis, Governor-General of India, took his two sons hostage. Inscription&nbsp;&ldquo;Tippoo&rsquo;s sons given to the English as hostages.&rdquo;
