Mughith ud-din Yuzbak, also known as Malik Ikhtiyar ud-din Yuzbak, was clearly not of royal ancestry, he was originally a slave, who started his career as Na&#39;ib Chashnigir (deputy comptroller of the royal kitchen) in the household of Iltutmish and the same is found on his first coinage struck to demonstrate his loyalty to Delhi Sultanate.

This coin is a testament to Yuzbak who called himself a slave in his earlier coins and assumed an independent position declaring himself Sultan and adopting the kuniyat (patronymic) Abul Fath in the year AH 652 (AD 1254). It was struck from the land tax (kharaj) of Azmardan and Nudiya. His aim was to regain the territories lost to the Gangas of Orissa.
