These coins were mistakenly thought to have been minted in the name of &quot;Moran&quot;, a courtesan, and were therefore erroneously termed as &quot;Morashahi&quot; coins. In an article in the JONS (Journal of Oriental Numismatic Society), an author has effectively established that the symbol on such coins is in no way related to Moran and is instead the sprig of the &quot;Ber&quot; (Zizyphus Jujuba) fruit.
