This coin is struck on the standard of Mughal Coinage. Tipu Sultan ascended the throne on 29th December 1782. Sultan adopted two types of nomenclature &nbsp;for the twelve months of the year. The first, in which the names follow the &quot;Abjad&quot; system&nbsp;was in use during the first four years of the reign and coins were struck with AH date pattern.&nbsp;While the second which follows the &quot;Abtath&quot; system&nbsp;came into force in the fifth regnal year, along with the Mauludi system of dating the coins.

We encounter only gold pagoda and copper paisa from Tipu Sultan&#39;s first year of reign (AH 1197) and no silver coins were reported except for a half rupee dated 1200 AH.&nbsp;This half rupee hitherto unlisted is a rarity.
