Note: In the ‘Tuzuk-e-Jahangiri', Emperor Jahangir vividly describes his innovative approach to coinage, stating: "It entered my mind that instead of the month, they should substitute the figure of the constellation belonging to that month. The figure of the constellation was to be on one face, as if the sun were emerging from it. This usage is my own and has never been practised until now."

Beginning in April 1618 (Julian calendar), Jahangir implemented this visionary idea. Traditionally, gold coins featured his name on one side and the mint, month, and regnal year on the other. Jahangir reimagined this convention, replacing the month's name with the corresponding zodiac constellation. For example, the month of Farwardin (March 10–April 11, Julian calendar) featured Aries, while Ardibihisht (April 11–May 11) bore Taurus. Over the next four months, coins were minted with the constellations of Gemini (Khurdad), Cancer (Tir), and Leo (Amardad).

This inventive coinage was first struck in Ahmadabad, where Jahangir was residing at the time. Despite his departure for Agra on the 21st of Shahrewar (September 2, 1618, Julian calendar), no silver coins bearing the Virgo constellation have been discovered, leaving a tantalizing mystery.

These zodiacal coins remain a testament to his unparalleled creativity and remain highly desirable by collectors today.
