Note: The Praetorian Camp was situated to the northeast of Rome, beyond the Servian Wall, between the Porta Viminalis and the Porta Collina. Claudius, the first of many emperors to be elevated by the Praetorian Guard, commemorated his ascension by issuing Aurei and Denarii with a reverse type inscribed with IMPER RECEPT.
