Note: Ghiyath ud din Iwad, initially appointed as governor of Bengal under the Delhi sultans in AH 1213, proclaimed himself Sultan of Bengal in 1219, as evidenced by a rare silver tanka. However, his rule was short-lived as Iltutmish of Delhi deposed and executed Iwad in AH 1227. By the years 620-621, Iwad’s growing influence in Bengal and Bihar prompted concerns for Iltutmish in Delhi. Consequently, Iltutmish took steps to assert control over Bihar, leading an expedition to the east in 622 and securing Iwad’s submission, even issuing coins in his name. However, Iwad’s authority in Bihar was reinstated shortly thereafter. A few years later, he met his demise in a battle with Mahmud, Iltutmish’s eldest son.
