Gupta Dynasty, Samudragupta (335-370 CE), Gold Dinar, Large flan, "King and Queen" type (Lichchhavayah), issued in the memory of his parents Chandragupta I and Kumaradevi, a crescent visible between King and Queen, Obv: the king, nimbate, diademed, standing to the right facing, the queen stands in tribhanga pose on the left, the king offering a ring/flower to the queen, both have a halo over their heads, and a crescent is visible between them, the Brahmi legend "Shri Kumaradevi" partially visible in the left field behind the queen, "Chandra" and "Gupta" in the right field divided by a crescent standard which is held in the king's left hand, Rev: the goddess Durga seated in the paralambapadasana pose on a recumbent lion facing right, holding a cornucopia and a pasha, a tamgha on the left field, the Brahmi legend "Lichchhavayah" in the right field and a dotted border around the field, 7.4g, 19.97mm, (Unlisted in Altekar & TOTGE), figures completely visible, almost fully struck, choice quality, about very fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: This type belongs to the 'Lichchhavayah' series, symbolizing the marital alliance between Chandragupta I of the Gupta dynasty and Princess Kumaradevi of the Licchavi Dynasty. An unlisted tamgha is observed near Goddess Durga on the reverse field of this coin. This particular type is unlisted in major numismatic work, including works by Altekar and S. Kumar.
