Note: Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, the third Sultan of Delhi and a ruler of the Mamluk dynasty, is widely regarded as the true founder and consolidator of the Delhi Sultanate. He transformed the former Ghurid military outpost into a stable empire by establishing Delhi as the capital, introducing key administrative and economic reforms such as the iqta system and a standardized silver and copper coinage (tanka and jital), securing recognition from the Abbasid Caliph, and successfully defending the Sultanate against Mongol incursions. Under his reign, Delhi emerged as a major political and cultural center in northern India.

The present silver tanka displays a remarkable and previously unrecorded feature. The mint name "Dehli" appears twice on the reverse - once in the upper field and again within the outer circular margin. Such deliberate repetition of the mint name on a single side is unknown in other recorded series. This may represent an experimental issue, intended to emphasize Delhi's political authority and sovereignty during a formative phase of the Sultanate.

It is the first documented appearance of this exceptional variant in a public auction, significantly enhancing its numismatic and historical importance. As part of a recent series of discoveries from the reign of Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, it offers advanced collectors of Delhi Sultanate coinage a rare opportunity to acquire a newly recorded type.
