Mysore Kingdom, Tipu Sultan, Patan (Seringpatan) Mint, Oblique Milling, Silver Rupee (Imami), AM 1219/9 RY, Obv: deen-e-ahmad dar jahan ast, roshan ze fatah haidar, Rev: huwas sultan-ul-waheed al adil, 11.40g, 25.06mm, about extremely fine, Rare.
The style of oblique milling was copied from those of Madras presidency and was discontinued immediately, precisely in the later part of 1219ME (1791 AD) Tipu Sultan experimented with oblique milling, reason being perhaps easy to produce and less expensive compared to Caorse milling technique. But immediately in the year 1220ME the old style of coarse milling was resumed.
One of the most important rupee from Tipu series and missing from various collection, exceptionally beautiful.!
