Note: In 1646, responding to a plea from the deposed Khan of Bukhara to reclaim Balkh, Shah Jahan dispatched Mughal forces who swiftly captured the city and its valuable treasury by July of that year. Despite initial successes, the harsh climate and persistent attacks from Uzbek partisans posed challenges for Indian troops, leading to negotiations for a truce. The Mughal army withdrew from Balkh by October 1647 after a brief occupation of just over a year. Despite its brevity, historical records such as Abdul Hamid Lahori's Badshahnama attest to the minting of coins in Balkh during this period. Discoveries like this coin, dated AH 1057, are tangible evidence of this historical chapter.
