Note: Lord Cornwallis, Governor-General of Bengal, personally led the East India Company’s forces during the Third Mysore War. In 1791, he captured Bangalore and advanced toward Seringapatam, but finding Tipu Sultan strongly entrenched and facing severe supply shortages and loss of transport cattle, he withdrew to Bangalore to regroup.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>In early 1792, Cornwallis returned with the largest and most powerful army yet fielded by the Company in India. He rapidly breached the city defenses, forcing Tipu Sultan to retreat into the fortress. Upon the arrival of further Company reinforcements, Tipu sought terms. The resulting settlement required the cession of half his territories, payment of a substantial indemnity, and the surrender of two of his sons as hostages.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>Tipu Sultan later resumed resistance and was ultimately killed in 1799 during the Fourth Mysore War, marking the end of Mysorean independence.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>Being offered for first time in auction!&nbsp;<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>
