Akbar pardoned his half-brother and returned to India, while Kabul was placed under the nominal governorship of Bakht-un-Nissa Begum, with Mirza Hakim continuing to exercise authority in practice. The issue was finally resolved after Mirza Hakim’s death in 1585, when Kabul was incorporated directly into the Mughal administration, transforming it from a contested dynastic appanage into a fully integrated imperial province. The shahrukhi offered here is of exceptional historical significance, combining three distinct and datable Mughal phases on a single flan: the reign of Babur, the early Mughal monetary administration at Lahore, and the consolidation of imperial authority under Akbar. The host coin is a Lahore-mint Shahrukhi of Babur bearing the date AH (93)8, a well-known engraving error; Lahore issues intended for AH 937 are frequently mis-engraved as AH 938. The later counter-stamp “ʿAdl-e-Kabul” dated AH 965 firmly places the secondary intervention within the reign of Akbar.
