This gold Tanka, plausibly struck from a silver die similar to G&amp;G B507, is unlisted in Goron &amp; Goenka and has not been offered in recent sales.&nbsp; Rukn ud-Din Barbak Shah, son of Sultan Maḥmud Shah, ruled the Bengal Sultanate from AD 1459–1474, a period marked by political stability, administrative consolidation, architectural patronage, and prolific coinage. Yet behind this prosperous reign lay a fateful policy: his large-scale recruitment of Abyssinian slaves from Africa into the army and court, initially intended to strengthen royal authority, ultimately sowed the seeds of Habshi dominance in Bengal. This unforeseen shift destabilized the realm and set the stage for the decline of the Ilyas Shahi dynasty, making coins from his reign not only rare but historically poignant - silent witnesses to a dynasty on the cusp of transformation.
