Note: This rare and historically important 100 rupees banknote&nbsp;was issued by the&nbsp;Reserve Bank of India for exclusive use in Burma&nbsp;(now Myanmar), during a transitional period when&nbsp;Burma was administratively separated from British India in 1937, but continued to rely on the RBI for currency&nbsp;until 1947.<o:p></o:p>The note bears distinct features linking it to Burma’s local circulation, including a&nbsp;violet “TAUNGGYI” stamp&nbsp;— marking the capital of Shan State — and a&nbsp;boxed purple “CLAIMS BY POST” overprint&nbsp;across the peacock motif, indicating&nbsp;its redemption via post. A handwritten&nbsp;“Case No. 1/1960”&nbsp;suggests that the note was&nbsp;encashed by the RBI as late as 1960, well after Indian-issued currency had ceased circulation in Burma.<o:p></o:p>Issued before the Japanese occupation of Burma during World War II, this banknote reflects a fascinating era of&nbsp;colonial monetary overlap.&nbsp;Few examples survive&nbsp;with such clear regional stamps and&nbsp;official RBI encashment annotations, making it a&nbsp;noteworthy relic of British India’s financial legacy.<o:p></o:p>
