Note: The title Nigalamkamalla was held by Barma Bhupala, and its shortened form appears on this fanam. While the gold pagodas weighing 3.30 grams have been previously studied by scholars, the silver taras and fanams have only recently come to light. An epigraphic record discovered in 1883 at Toragale, Dharwad district, Karnataka, mentions a ruler named Barma reigning in the Kuntala country around 1187-88 CE, bearing the titles Nigalamkamalla and Dandinagova.&nbsp;In Kannada, these titles translate to Nigalam (magnificent), Mukha (face), Kamaladam (like a blooming lotus), and Dinagava (all day), symbolizing his unparalleled power, glory, and prosperity. It suggests that Barma Bhupala’s radiant and majestic presence, reflective of his strength and wealth, earned him these exalted titles.The attribution of the Silver Tara and Gold Fanams to Barma Bhupala is supported by the striking resemblance of their obverse design to his gold pagodas. Extremely rare and unlisted in major reference catalogs.
