Note: This Iran Gold Octagonal Medal commemorates the 50th anniversary of Bank Melli (National Bank of Iran) and the Pahlavi Dynasty. Struck in 1976 (MS 2535 / 1355 AH), these medals were issued in various weights and sizes. The present substantial 40 gram specimen was possibly among the highest weight examples, believed to have been reserved for presentation to particularly distinguished guests or VIP delegates.<o:p></o:p>The medal was presented to a doctor of Indian origin from Karnataka, who had been deputed by the Government of India to Iran. A fascinating piece of historical and diplomatic provenance.<o:p></o:p>
