During the latter half of the sixteenth century, Kabul served as the principal entrepot between the Mughal Empire and Central Asia, where silver Shahrukhis of the Shaybanid rulers-especially those struck at the renowned mint of Samarqand-formed an integral part of regional commerce. Recognizing their established acceptance in trade, Akbar refrained from recalling and recoining these foreign issues, instead validating them for circulation by impressing the "Adl-e-Kabul" ("Justice of Kabul")&nbsp;counterstamp.&nbsp; More than a mere fiscal expedient, the countermark symbolized the transfer of monetary authority from the Shaybanids to the Mughals, transforming a Central Asian trade coin into officially sanctioned Mughal currency while preserving its familiar weight and silver standard. These counter-stamped Shahrukhis eloquently illustrate the economic interdependence of Mughal Kabul and Transoxiana and rank among the most historically compelling and elusive issues associated with Akbar's early Kabul coinage.<o:p></o:p>
