Note: Nisar coins originated under Jahangir, who introduced the practice as a ritual distribution intended to ward off the ill effects of the “evil eye,” distracting onlookers while the emperor appeared at court or during processions. Jahangir himself records in his autobiography the sums of money he scattered during such occasions in cities like Ahmadabad. Many Nisars, however, are known from mints in places the emperor never personally visited, indicating that these ceremonies were often performed by high-ranking officials or members of the imperial court on his behalf.These coins were typically struck in very low denominations, meant to serve only for the brief duration of the ritual or procession. Consequently, such pieces rarely survived in circulation and are extremely scarce today. While the concept began under Jahangir, Nisar issues are generally not encountered for the coinage of Farrukhsiyar.
