Pre-Stamp Cover, Ship Letter, 8 Annas, 1860, Bombay to Marib, dispatched from Bombay with Black four-lined rectangle seal as &ldquo;BOMBAY | SHIP COVER | 18 (60?) | Bearing 8 As.&rdquo;, value is hand endorsed outside the seal in Red ink mss &lsquo;8As.&rsquo; denotes 8 Annas. Sender&rsquo;s and receiver&rsquo;s addresses are in Arabic, Black circular seal on the back side citing &ldquo;BOMBAY | ? 1 FE | 1860&rdquo;. Hijri Year 1276 mss in Arabic, two wax seals of red color&nbsp;are applied to secure the gluing of the cover (probably it was insured), very good condition, Rare.

Note: According to its historical significance, Marib was a relatively small and insignificant town. In this period, Yemen, including the region around Marib, was under the control of the Ottoman Empire.

J. Tucker 165098&rdquo; (hand endorsed on the back), two dispatch seals as &ldquo;KOTAGIRI | 29 DEC.| 8.30 A.M. | 1944&rdquo;, addressed to&ldquo;MRS. R. TUCKER | SUMMERLAND | HONITON | DEVON | ENGLAND&rdquo;, &amp; Censor seal triangle &ldquo;FIELDCENSOR 118&rdquo; are seen, delivery seal round &ldquo;ADVANCE BASE POST OFFICENO 14 | 30DEC. | 7 15 P. Note:&nbsp;On the left margin of this cover are instructions explaining how to use this green envelope. This was intended to be used as a special type of envelope for sending mail related to active service in the armed forces. The correspondence contained in this envelope does not need to be censored by the Regiment. This envelope is subject to examination at the base and the sender must sign a certificate stating, &quot;I certify on my honour that the contents of this envelope contain nothing but private and family matters.

In order to ensure that soldiers and their families could stay in touch, green envelopes were used for active service mail, as they were intended to prioritize and expedite the delivery of such correspondence. The green envelopes were a symbol of support and recognition for those serving in the Indian armed forces during the reign of King George VI.
