Note: The Third Anglo–Mysore War (1790–1792), the third of the four Anglo–Mysore Wars, was fought in South India between the Kingdom of Mysore, under Tipu Sultan, and the British East India Company, supported by its allies, including the Maratha Empire and the Nizam of Hyderabad. The war concluded in March 1792 with the Treaty of Seringapatanam, under which Mysore was compelled to surrender a substantial portion of its territories. The Mysore Medal was authorised in April 1793 by Lord Cornwallis, Governor-General of India, who had commanded the East India Company forces during the campaign. These medals were primarily awarded to native Indian troops serving in the Company’s forces. Gold medals were reserved for senior native officers, including Subedars; larger silver medals were awarded to junior officers such as Jemadars and Serangs, while smaller silver medals were presented to non-commissioned ranks and sepoys, including Havildars, Naiks, Tindals and Lascars. European officers and soldiers, whether serving with the East India Company or the British Army, were not eligible for the award.
