Around AH 907 (AD 1501–02), Qunduz, along with Hissar and Termez, was under the control of Khusru Shah, a Kipchak Noble and Governor appointed by the Timurid ruler Mahmud Mirza.<o:p></o:p>Around AD 1504, Zahir ud-din Muhammad, later known as Babur, entered the territory of Karateghin after being ousted from Ferghana by the advancing Uzbeks. Khusru Shah opposed Babur’s entry, but his tyrannical rule had made the local population favor Babur. Many of Khusru’s soldiers deserted to Babur, who established a stronghold in the foothills of the Hindu Kush. Unable to resist effectively, Khusru Shah surrendered to Babur &amp; allowed him to take control of Qunduz.
