Note: An important and early gold issue marking a significant stylistic departure from the Delhi Sultanate prototypes, this coin reflects the emerging identity of Bahmani numismatics. Muhammad Shah I adopts the elaborate honorific "Sultan al-‘Ahd wa’l-Zamān, Ḥāmī Millat Rasūl al-Raḥmān", translating to “Sultan of the Age, Defender of the Faith of the Prophet”—a declaration of both religious legitimacy and sovereign authority, repeated consistently on his gold and silver issues. The reverse legend “Muhammad Hasan Bahmani” holds dynastic importance. The name “Hasan” was likely a pre-regnal name shared by both Alauddin Bahman Shah and his son Muhammad Shah I, suggesting deliberate use to reinforce dynastic continuity and legitimacy.Struck to a dinar standard (approx. 12.7g), this issue contrasts with the tanka-weight standards used in concurrent silver coinage. The mint name Ahsanabad refers to the Bahmani capital, Gulbarga, a hub of early administration and coin production.A historically important coin that reflects the emergence and distinct identity of the Bahmani Sultanate in the Deccan region.
