Note: Shah Jahan III, born Muhi-ul-Millat, was a short-reigned and largely ceremonial Mughal emperor, elevated to the throne by the powerful wazir Imad-ul-Mulk during a time of intense political instability. His reign lasted less than a year before he was deposed by the Marathas. This exceedingly rare gold mohur, struck at the Ahmadnagar Farrukhabad mint, bears the complete mint name—a feature seldom seen. Though geographically located in present-day Uttar Pradesh, the mint fell under the jurisdiction of the Bengal Presidency during this period of shifting power dynamics. Some collectors debate whether to attribute this solely to the Mughal series or to the Bangash Nawabs of Farrukhabad, adding to its historical and numismatic significance.Coins issued in Shah Jahan III’s name are highly uncommon, and this superb example stands out for its sharp details, exceptional strike, attractive golden hue, and high-grade luster—making it a worthy addition to any distinguished Mughal or Bangash Nawab collection.
