Half-rupees of British India are generally known to be soft-struck coins, often lacking sharp detail in the finer areas of the design. The present specimen, however, stands out for its remarkable preservation and striking quality.

The coin displays a beautiful combination of original mint luster and natural toning developed over time, enhancing its overall eye appeal. Notably, it retains sharp details across the portrait, including the face, hair, neck, eyes, ear, and hairband, along with the other important elements of Queen Victoria’s iconography, areas which are typically prone to fading on this series.

This piece ranks among the choicest and finest examples we have handled, exhibiting many of the desirable qualities collectors seek in a premium specimen. An MS 64 graded example of this type has not previously been offered in our auctions, making this its first appearance in our sale.
